Registration — walk-in or appointment check-in, by front desk or nurse — is the single act that issues a physical token and puts the patient on the board. Numbering is per-clinic, per-day and race-free.

How the board is ordered
- The board orders strictly by token number — a nurse taking vitals never changes queue position; the stage is just an informational chip.
- Re-adding a patient who already has an open draft encounter today reuses their token. A new encounter only starts after the previous note is confirmed.
Now / Next & call-next
Each doctor gets a focused Now / Next view — who they're consulting and who's next — with a call-next handshake so two doctors never pull the same patient.
Reception can bump a patient to the front, push a stepped-out patient back, recall, or mark a no-show.
